When you think of Auburn, two things probably spring to mind: football and education. While we love to cheer on our team (War Eagle!), today we’re here to talk about the learning experiences our town has to offer. As it turns out, Auburn University isn’t the only great spot for students. In fact, Auburn City is the sixth-best school district in Alabama. Wow! Keep reading for details about this amazing honor.

Recently, Niche came out with its list of the 2022 Best School Districts in Alabama. They ranked the top 75. Well, we’re happy to say that Auburn’s district made the list!
How they determined the ranking
It took data and research from Niche and the U.S. Department of Education to rank the best school districts in the state. During the process, they looked at a variety of factors, with some (like academics) weighted higher than others.
Those metrics were:
- Health and safety;
- Clubs and activities;
- Resources and facilities;
- Academics;
- Sports;
- Teachers;
- Culture and diversity; and
- Parent/student surveys about their overall experience, which were gathered from Niche users.
The top five
So, which other districts ranked in the top? Here are the top five:
- Homewood City Schools;
- Madison City Schools;
- Mountain Brook City Schools;
- Vestavia Hills City Schools; and
- Hoover City Schools.
Opelika’s ranking
Auburn City is the sixth-best school district in Alabama—but Opelika also made the list. It earned spot number 23. Not too shabby!
