Is Auburn switching lanes and choosing Cane’s? Yup, you’ve heard it here first: the Auburn Downtown Design Review Committee is in talks with Raising Cane’s representatives to open a new Downtown Auburn Raising Cane’s location. Here’s what we know so far.
About Raising Cane’s
Before we dig into the details, let’s get a quick taste of what Raising Cane’s is.
A popular fast-food restaurant chain known for its simple yet delicious menu centered on chicken-finger meals, Cane’s has built a loyal following with its crispy food. Founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1996, the brand has stayed true to its menu featuring crispy chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, buttery Texas toast, coleslaw and signature Cane’s Sauce.
With a fun, laid-back atmosphere and a commitment to serving hot, fresh food made to order, Raising Cane’s focuses on doing one thing—and doing it well—chicken fingers.
Raising Cane’s in Downtown Auburn
Raising Cane’s representatives exploring plans to open a new location in Downtown Auburn recently met with Auburn’s Downtown Design Review Committee to discuss early site plans. In talks to replace the former Bourbon Street Bar building, the Louisiana-based chain has grown rapidly under CEO Todd Graves, opening 118 new restaurants in 2024 alone.
If approved, construction could begin in 2026 following design and site plan reviews to ensure the building meets Auburn’s Urban Core standards. City officials say the proposed design is largely compliant but will require adjustments to align with downtown aesthetics.
Location
The proposed Downtown Auburn Raising Cane’s location is planned for 103 N. College Street, positioned directly next to Whataburger in the heart of downtown. This location is the former Bourbon Street Bar building that has been vacant since 2020.
Summary
So, fingers, fries or toast, what are you craving the most? You’ll soon get to decide if the Downtown Auburn Raising Cane’s location is approved.
