EAMC Emergency Department

In an outstanding achievement that spotlights its commitment to excellence in patient care, East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) Emergency Department has been honored with a prestigious Lantern Award by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). This accolade places EAMC among the nation’s elite emergency departments, a testament to its dedication to providing exceptional care and innovative practices.

What is the Lantern Award?

The Lantern Award recognizes emergency departments across the United States that exemplify outstanding performance in patient care, leadership and innovation. This year, the ENA awarded 96 Lantern Awards, and EAMC proudly stands as one of only two hospitals in Alabama to receive this esteemed recognition.

This award not only highlights the facility’s achievements but also sets a benchmark for excellence in emergency medical services.

Why EAMC Stands Out

The EAMC Emergency Department was evaluated on several critical factors, including the quality of care, innovative practices, nursing excellence and community engagement.

High-quality patient-centered care is exemplified through their focus on timely interventions and comprehensive patient assessments, ensuring that patients receive the best possible outcomes.

Furthermore, the EAMC Emergency Department is at the forefront of adopting new technologies and practices that enhance patient safety and streamline emergency care processes.

Additionally, the highly skilled nursing staff at EAMC is dedicated to ongoing education and training, ensuring they stay abreast of the latest advancements in emergency medicine.

Finally, EAMC actively participates in community outreach programs that educate the public about emergency preparedness, further solidifying its role as a leader in the community.

More about the EAMC Emergency Department

The EAMC Emergency Department is a Level II Primary Stroke Center and a Level III Trauma Center. It is also a recognized Sexual Assault Treatment Center and has received numerous national quality awards for its care of stroke, diabetes and sepsis patients. The department spearheads initiatives to lower opioid-related fatalities and the stigma around mental health.

The department employs a five-level triage system to evaluate patients upon arrival, ensuring those with life-threatening conditions are seen immediately. A special rapid-treatment space with six exam seats offers prompt, high-quality care in a more effective setting for patients with minor injuries or illnesses.

And for patients in need of more urgent care, this strategy maintains traditional emergency departments, which helps to shorten wait times and enhance overall efficiency. Visit eastalabamahealth.org to learn more about EAMC.
