Get ready to make a splash at one or two upgraded aquatic centers in Opelika set to open this month. Pool projects spearheaded by Opelika Parks and Recreation that started last summer are finishing just in time for summer fun!
About the projects
A recent ribbon-cutting for the pool project at the Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatics Center celebrated the almost complete improvements at the new outdoor pool. But, according to reports, the facility won’t be open to the public until Saturday, June 8.
Along with the project at the Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatics Center, Covington Recreation Center has also received some major facility upgrades as part of the comprehensive improvements that started last summer. Those same reports state a ribbon cutting has been scheduled to kick off an opening on Saturday, June 22.
More about the upgraded aquatic centers
Are you wondering what you will find at the two upgraded aquatic centers in Opelika once they open for the season? For starters, both will feature plenty of space and ways for adults and children alike to cool off!
The Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatics Center, for instance, now boasts a 50-meter outdoor pool featuring a 360° zero-depth entry splash playground. Additional improvements include covered seating areas, extra locker rooms, outdoor restrooms and family changing areas. There will also be a concession stand offering refreshments and snacks.
As for the Covington Recreation Center, updates consist of a zero-depth entry recreation pool with an in-water play feature, two 25-yard lap lanes, a waterslide, a fenced-in spray pad and shaded pavilions for comfortable seating.
