preparing your home for trick-or-treaters

One of the best parts of owning a home is giving candy to all those sweet little costumed kiddos around Halloween! Still, it can take a bit of time and effort to get your home ready for tiny visitors. This season, try out these helpful tips for preparing your home for trick-or-treaters.

Decide How You’ll Give out Treats

Handing out treats is fun, but not if you have a baby at home or pets to put away. Decide how you’ll give out your treats—leaving them on your front porch or giving them out in person. If you leave them on your front porch, add a clearly visible note or sign. That way, no one disturbs you by ringing your door over and over again.

Rely on Light

This is a nice and easy tip for preparing your home for trick-or-treaters. Turn on your porch lights! You can also decorate with little festive lights on stakes or garlands of spooky bulbs.

Mow the Yard

Mowing the yard will serve two purposes. First of all, it will make your lawn look great. Second of all, it will ensure that you have already cleaned up your yard, getting rid of hazards.

Get Treats Ahead of Time

Ever get home from work on the 31st and realize that you’ve got no candy in the house? Avoid that situation entirely by getting the treats a few days to a week before. Worried about chowing down on the candy? Here’s a secret: get yourself a small pack or two of your favorite candy in the check-out line. That way, you won’t tear into your supply or overindulge in the days leading up to Halloween.

Put Fido or Fluffy out of Sight

Your pets love attention! They may want to seek some from cute little trick-or-treaters. Or, they might get scared of ghouls and goblins. Find a safe place for your cat or dog—one where they can’t get anywhere near the exits to your home.

Make a Clean Sweep

How’s your porch looking? What about your sidewalk? Make a clean sweep of it and get out the broom!

Summary

Preparing your home for trick-or-treaters may sound a frightful task, but by following these tips, you’re in for a delightful holiday. Happy Halloween!
